16 Tons is a song by blue collars for blue collars. The fact is, most of us won't make the grade when it comes to fame, fortune, and/or power. The majority of us have been, are, and always will be a part of the working class--I include myself in this category. Many of us (I am referring to Americans in this instance) will work well into our 70's and 80's to pay off our medical bills and supplement a meager or non-existent retirement fund. Born into a coal mining family, Merle Travis quoted his father when he inserted the following phrase into his song 16 Tons: "Another day older and deeper in debt". This is life's motto for a good portion of us, and Travis knew it. Why did I post 16 Tons? To relate to the part of society who won't be breaking through the glass ceiling anytime soon--via YouTube or any other private/social platform, for that matter. Travis ends with, "I owe my soul to the company store". This speaks to me, and I am sure that I am not the only one. Cheers.

  • To be honest, I don't like the country, all-american twang and mannerisms you put on this song.

That being said, you have a great voice and good job

  • Great job! I was impressed that you did this song originally by Tennessee Ernie Ford so well--never imagined a woman doing it. Nicely done!

  • Good job, enjoyed this video

  • @quegemo Merle Travis was the original. When Ernie Ford did it was when the song took off, but he wasnt the original.

  • Beautiful voice and face...

  • At least you have your looks... Lol jk good voice too

  • HILARIOUS!

  • And... I'm off to bed so I can wake up at 5am for my miserable effin J. O. B.

Oh, nice cover by the way. You have a catchy voice :) It took a little bit of the sting off of this giant black vortex of despair that is the world of a plumbing contractor. Damn, I need a drink.
