  • I don't know why people dislike this bridge. Why is it that Dubia, China, the U.S and other countries can spend tons of money building beautiful architectures, and Canada can't? Why can't we have our beautiful architecture that leaves the rest of the world in awe? I'm tried of the old ugly buildings that mar our skylines.

  • I quess the welderos didn't do a very good job LOL

  • I'm glad they built this bridge. This bridge will be a future landmark and will be as recognizable as the Calgary Tower. 20 years from now, nobody will even remember the controversy, but everyone will be admiring the bridge.

  • @furrycanuck the bridge wasn't even built properly. so who payed for the repaired welds then?

  • @duchashes the aesthetics of it is really another argument. the way the project was managed was less than stellar. i don't know if the city ended up fitting the bill for the repaired welds, but if they did, then the whole thing was a big rip off for Calgarians and to me is just scandalous. furthermore, we have plenty of qualified welders here in Calgary, in the province with the highest standards when it comes to welding. Why didn't we construct the bridge here?

  • @donteatthechalk you do realize the bridge was not structurally sound on arrival to calgary...

  • @shamino1000 yeah but that's not the architects fault that's the builders fault

  • I can't believe people think this is ugly. The people of Calgary should feel blessed to have Calatrava design a bridge for them. Do your research on him, he knows architecture.

  • @EeyoreWhyBother No use having beautiful architecture if it is not structurally sound. The welds on that bridge did not pass examinations...they are full of cracks. How much do you think it will cost to repair that?

  • @N1CKF3D Have you ever heard of "the city of arts and science", a much bigger project (huge) of Calatrava's? I wonder how many people have. It is MUCH more worthy of renown than this little bridge. World-renowned, indeed! :)

  • @EeyoreWhyBother I think the question is what can be done to achieve your desired aims. Public money won't beautify downtown Calgary, it's as ugly as sin, once you get away from the river. That is the result of choices by developers, politicians, bureaucrats and residents. Lovely bridges are great as is any sort of 'lovely' addition to the built environment. I haven't heard anyone who objects to this bridge say otherwise.
