Photos and Video by Michael Tushaus. Music by Lee Greenwood, "America the Beautiful."

In November of 2004, I had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. while I was Technical Director for Lincoln Southwest High School's Theatre Department. We took to D.C. the entire high school's cast and crew of our One-Act Production of "A Piece of My Heart," a play about several nurses' experiences in Vietnam.

We were fortunate and deeply enlightened to be there on Veteran's Day. We visited the Vietnam Memorial, the WWII Memorial, and several other memorials and monuments there. We even attended President Bush's ceremony at Arlington Cemetery. We witnessed firsthand the emotions, the heartaches, and the true spirit of America that day. There were no Democrats or Republicans or politics that day. Only Americans.

Those students were able to walk away from that moment with a deep enlightenment and appreciation about what it means to say "Freedom isn't Free."

This video contains photos and video I took that day which were used in the final scene of the play as 2 separate projections behind the students' live re-enactment of the Vietnam Nurse's Memorial.

This video is dedicated to those students, who are our future, and to those who fought to preserve their future--all the Veterans of the United States of America.
