  • These guys don't understand. I was a customer for these people(southwestern) and I was very pleased with their product. They were friendly and helpful. They did ask about where the YOUGER PERSONS live, not children. This is because their educational products benefit youth, not those over 50.

    This guy is overreacting incredibly.

  • these people are totally overreacting, southwestern book kids never say theyre from the school..but they ARE a part of the community providing a service, not selling books but selling education....closed minded people hear what they chose to, sometimes twisting the words of the salesmans approach.i know because i sold in lexington county that summer and this incident affected me and my roomates...this makes me laugh becasue i know for a fact i changed the lives of over 3000families cuz i came by

  • The community isn't overreacting. They have a right to be concerned. I've sold with Southwestern for 2 summers and am going on my 3rd. Most of the time people think we are w/ the school don't listen to what we're doing since they are just trying to get us off their door step. I can't count how many times people have asked me if I'm from the school and I've said no every time. Something similar happened to me in Texas. It happens since we sell education products. People just need to listen

  • @maimont Well they need to stay way from long drive ways just because my house is nice does not mean im rich and I have a sign that says no tresspassing. I'm letting my dog loose on the next one and if I go to jail I will put the attack on youtube and brag about it!

  • oh my gosh, a 20 year old knocked on your door and tried to sell you something. go babble it to the army - but of course you cant expect much from an uneducated trades person. WOOT redline-canadian representin!!

  • I figured a buncha brainwashed salespeople would respond t this with "great products...helping people...helping with education...blah blah (insert generally uniform answer here)" These salespeople canNOT reaize that the vast majority of people in the USA and elsewhere do NOT want some kid taking up their time trying to sell them a product that even the salespeople wouldn't buy had they been approached by with the same thing.

  • clearly unbelievable

I worked for Southwestern one summer and I learned more than during the past 5 years of my life. I helped people too, and this is a great feeling.

It just makes me angry to see dumb journalists trying to bring down a company they absolutely don't know anything about

  • WOOOW this is unbelievable , unbelievable. I don't get how ppl don't see that this door to door experience is by far the hardest thing a college kid can do with his summer, there is a lot of sacrifices into it, ps. they are just trying to get their way through college, by helping with kid's education

  • I sold books 4 summers, and I love Southwestern almost as much as I love my Marine Corps. They both had a positive and lasting impact on my life. And the 2 of them, together, paid my way through West Virginia University. This is a good example of a "reporter" trying to sensationalize a quick soundbite-story. If she had done her homework she would look at the other parties side, and find out why and how Southwestern still works 150+ years. Go chase an ambulance, Sister.

  • Reminds me of a bluelight special I got one time.... dude wouldn't even let me correct him when he said, "So you're workin' for the schools, huh?

  • You can imagine my lack of surprise when I walked out of his neighbors house with their oldest son to help me bring some of the books in and there were two cops checking my car out and writing stuff down. I laughed out loud, it was so awesome.
