Famous Studios Popeye the Sailor cartoon. This one was made during World War II when North America had a good neighbor policy with South America. That is the main premise for this cartoon. This cartoon also spoofs many of the "buddy" films (for example Bing Crosby and Bob Hope) that were made during the time. In this one, buddies Popeye and Bluto travel to Rio where they see a Brazilian version of Olive Oyl perform the Samba in a club. This cartoon marks the last voice work that Dave Barry did for Bluto. Starting in the next cartoon, Jackson Beck would permanently do the voice for Bluto. The voice for Olive Oyl is unknown as it is not Margie Hines or Mae Questel who voiced Olive in this film. This version has the original soundtrack restored. The Paramount logos were sourced from another cartoon (probably "She-Sick Sailors"). This version was made to be aired on Cartoon Network's "The Popeye Show", but the show was cancelled before this one could be aired.

  • say pal, i always thought you were a straight shooter..

  • @JeterSwisherFan88 If Chaz Bono was doing the Samba it would of been a laugh riot

  • I just notice that in some cartoons it's all olive fault!

  • Wow, thanks for this and the info on the cartoon... I could tell that wasn't Jackson Beck doing Bluto. I'm more familiar with Beck's Bluto, but Dave Barry sings well in the part.

  • oh and i love when he crunches the table

  • i love poyeye when he dances silly

  • One would have thought, that such a beautiful, ornate, classy, and huge night club in Rio---one that features Harry James on trumpet in a band conducted by Bob Hope---would have a much spiffier name than just "C A F E".

  • great musical cartoon!

  • @s275ironman ParamountCartoons is right,i checked and before this is 015-The Marry-Go Round

  • @templars83 I totally agree with your opinion! Olive really sings and dances exceptionally well in this one. The producers must of used three cells for each second of film time.
