Video Produced by Goldfinch Garden ...

NUTHATCH
The nuthatch is a plump bird about the size of a great tit that resembles a small woodpecker. It is blue-grey above and whitish below, with chestnut on its sides and under its tail. It has a black stripe on its head, a long black pointed bill, and short legs. It breeds in central and southern England and in Wales, and is resident, with birds seldom travelling far from the woods where they hatch.

WHERE TO SEE THEM
Best looked for in mature woods and established parkland in central and southern England and Wales, on the sides of tree trunks and underside of branches. Occasional sightings in Scotland.

WHEN TO SEE THEM
All year round.

WHAT THEY EAT
Insects, hazel nuts, acorns, beechmast and other nuts and seed.

  • I see white breasted nuthatches on my deck daily here in Hocking County, Ohio. I live in a forest and there is a dazzling array of birds to see year round!

  • Lovely video!

My wife and I had the privelige of seeing and hearing a pair of

Nuthatches at Clare country park in Suffolk on Saturday 26th March 2011.

I saw my first Nuthatch in May 1988 on a Lime Tree on the avenue

to Kentwell Hall in Long Melford , Suffolk and have heard , but not seen

them since in both Colchester Highwoods country park in spring 1997

and the Undercliff at Lyme Regis , Dorset in May 2005.

For such a small bird they have a very loud voice .

    Thank you for posting.
