If the battery hasn't been replaced since factory, it's likely to be at fault and can fail later - also it can leak all over the insides of your synth!
A battery backed RAM can fail partially. It needs a sound cart or midi sysex sound dump to replace those tones though.
Do you have an expression pedal plugged in? If so, unplug it and check the voltage again. It will give an incorrect reading if you have the pedal plugged in and pressed down all the way.
Also, always keep your DX7's power plugged in (you can switch it off when you'e not using it of course). Your internal battery will use itself more if your DX7 is unplugged.

load the factory settings again, that is what happens with a juno 106 too, i got a dx9 and a juno 106, both i can put factory settings back

you have corrupted memory...its very easy to fix...just reload the sysex dumps with a librarian...just search dx7 librarian on google...

i'm gonna post a video of my dx7 problem: mine is weird. when hitting a note, the sound will pitch up to it.
hard to explain i know, so will upload a vid.
