  • Too bad he's a bass and not a baritone...

  • Dear carlogic 1953, there's something wrong in your comment. This is the Fiesco's aria from Simon Boccanegra and Fiesco is a bass. So I don't understand what you mean, but let me guess:

    1) you consider Pertusi a baritone and not a bass

    2) "He" was referred to the aria. In this case you would better correct your English grammar.

    3) you didn't recognise the aria and confused it with the baritone's one.

  • bravooo that is real bel canto singing on high position without throath stratching bravo

  • es un baritono con un timbre grueso, ademas cuando oyes hablar a michele lo ultimo que piensas es que sea baritono o incluso bajo

  • I'm afraid that we have very different opinions regarding the bass voice... Even Mr Pertusi does not consider himself a bass but a bass-baritone. Secondly the tessitura of this air is quite low, with a low F sharp at the end which, if not sung with due authority and volume, risks to be pathetic, rather a breath of warm air than a real and full sound.

Pertusi's voice is at ease in the middle and top register. Below A1 his voice simply dies. This means that he's a bass-baritone and not a bass.

  • Per me Pertusi hà la voce di baritono non di basso...

  • I'm somehow surprised you dont consider Pertusi as a bass. How come ? In fact I rather do consider him (because of his "average" colour as a "basso cantante" with a very good high range (as in the Counts aria from Le Nozze di Figaro). OK, they are always some different opinions on this kind of topic, but nonetheless, if you have some time to explain more precisely your opinion, I' am interested.

  • I do like Pertusi, but this an aria for a TRUE bass voice. His timbre is too light, and lacks the due authority for this role.

  • He's magnificent. A great voice and such stage presence. One of the great baritones of this century.
