No, plenty of Catholics played for Liverpool before 1981. Bill Lacey an Irish Catholic from Wexford played for them before World War I. He was signed from Everton. Everton, even though they were founded by Methodists had stronger Irish Catholic connections because a Catholic Dr Baxter helped them buy Goodison Park. Liverpool even though they were founded by two Orangemen always had Catholic players. The Everton-Liverpool divide was never as defined as the Old Firm Catholic-Protestant divide.
@ThaGrimReefah34 I commend you sir for actually having a decent argument, no "ur a fagit" :D anyway liverpool not signing a catholic until 1981 speaks for itself. I don't know much about recent history but I know that everton had a methodist protestant background. Remember not all irish immigrants are catholic :D
@cfcceeko1888 Well lets just explore some facts shall we. Although this isn't really the case anymore it was back in the day and still some families (like mine) have kept the tradition. Liverpool was founded as the Catholic team in Liverpool and Everton the protestant. Years ago you're religion and decent dictated which team you supported. Liverpool is the most supported team in Ireland (not celtic) who are 3rd after Man U. Liverpool has more Irish immigrants than anywhere in the world... etc
@ThaGrimReefah34 Liverpool were founded by a protestant and didn't field a catholic player until whelan in 1981. Care to tell me how, in any way Liverpool are an irish catholic team?
@harataikiphilosopher Did you know that Liverpool are a catholic team ? most of their fans are of Irish Catholic descent and moved to Liverpool seeking work. Liverpool are more of an Irish team then Celtic. I can tell you that because my entire family are Irish and i go there a lot and there is more Liverpool supporters than any other set of fans there. And you clearly have no clue about what you are on about. about 15 clubs in England have kops... its basically a tradition
@ptpt1 wait, you took this song from Celtic, Irish Songs for Irish Folk. Nothing LFC has is its own, you even took the name Kop from The Woolwich Arsenal AFC: search Spion Kop, Dirty Thieving Scousers. My English blood puts my Arsenal Shirt on my Back, and the English Rugby Rose on my Chest, the Irish blood puts a Celtic Shirt on my Back and the 3 Sprig Shamrock on my chest.
@ptpt1 Do your research before you come out with stupid statements you tube,by the way don't assume you'll never walk alone is your's ,unless you were about in the 50's and 60's where it originated.
@ptpt1 You copied this from Celtic as you did with you'll never walk alone, you were obviously not about in the 50's and 60's you tube, research before opening your gob.
