Help the Koalas

This slideshow was produced to send around the world to help my friend the koala! Having worked with koalas now for only a short time, I have come to know them as gentle and inquisitive animals that need our HELP desperately. There have been 3 Senate Inquiries in Australia regarding the status, health and sustainability of the Australian Koala and recommendations will be made regarding listing the species on the endangered species list on 20th Sept. I am calling to fellow Australians and people around the world to make a difference for this beloved iconic marsupial. The time is NOW.

The 3rd Inquiry took place in Melbourne on 1 August and we now await the results of the efforts of many. The Threatened Species Scientific Committees testimony was disappointing as they stated that they would NOT recommend listing and they answer directly to the Minister of the Environment. Let us hope that there will be greater support from the Senate Committee and that the evidence speaks for itself be it anecdotal or not. The KOALA is in trouble and the time to help them is NOW!

We need to protect them from dogs and car hits. We need to learn more about the disease that is becoming epidemic. We need to CARE!!!!!!!!!!

The best ways to provide for the koala are complicated and diverse and yet simple at the same time. We need to stop cutting into the existing corridors with excessive land clearing and lack of protection for mature tree species within the koala food tree areas. We need to protect known populations and re-locate them to a safe place when possible. We need to re-plant new trees for the future. We need to protect the koala from harm with wildlife fencing and safe passage between food tree sources.

I have been thinking about koala welfare for some time now! The world needs to understand the importance of keeping this wonderful animal around! What are the best ways to provide for this animal? What volunteer programs are there? Is obtaining this animal and captive breeding them possible?

The Koala is such a beautiful animal and should be protected under law to save these great animals..People should ACT and help save them from harm!!!!

Thanks. Around the world, people need to understand that this amazing marsupial needs to be protected before it is too late. In SE Queensland Australia, the koala could be gone within the next 5 years. The southern koalas are believed to be prolific and thriving but many do not know that the threat of disease and same issues we are facing here, will one day also be so there. The Kangaroo Island population are now all testing positive for disease so it is only a matter of time.
