Well, that´s only improvising over a theme. Look for a phrase that represents your song better, then repeat it few times inside the song. Pay special attention to harmonic movements. It must be simple and coeherent. People should go home whistlying your song, right? Tah-ráh-ráh-ráááhhh! Two-roo-ráhhh-ráhhh-roo-ráhhh!
