In this video I discuss one of the responses Calvinism suggests to support the doctrine of everlasting punishment: God saves some and not all to make it clear that salvation is of grace and is undeserved.

Still it looks like this response is not satisfying.

  • Yeah, what I continue not to understand about the Calvenist position is why do Calvenists think its permissible for God to do things which, if the very same thing were done by a human, we would say that it is evil. Calvinism would make so much more sense to me if they would just come out and say the same thing that the Muslims say about Allah, that God is the ultimate source of both good and evil in the universe. God gives us both.

  • Isa 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

Lam 3:38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and evil come?

Amo 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Exo 4:21 And the LORD said unto Moses,...but I will harden [Pharoah's] heart, that he shall not let the people go.

  • Interesting...

How would you, skalapunk, then justify God's goodness in the light if the verses?

  • I see what you say, Randy!

But....I think due to ontologically different status God could do the things that would be considered evil for us to do.

Example would be killing a man: we can't since we have no authority, God can since He has.

  • @changeishere2008 Good thing Calvinism has nothing to with John Calvin and everything to do with the Bible.

    Check out Acts 13:48 sometime.

  • @changeishere2008 It's a good thing personal subjective opinions and assertions, like the one you gave, are irrelevant and have no bearing on what the Bible teaches as true.

  • calvinism is backwards it's crazy!!!!!!!! people

  • @skalapunk

Calvinism is a perversion of the Gospel. It's confusion in it best form. Please stay away from this false teaching and tell others to avoid this trap.

  • Calvinism is a perversion of the Gospel. Calvin was a Mad man. he was the "pope' of Geneva... People had to get his ok to do things....Please stay away from it.

  • As the Calvinistic Baptist Confession of Faith 1689 states, God decrees everything that comes to pass, yet He is not the author of sin, nor is violence offered to the will of the creature, nor yet is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established

Therefore, since God decrees sin through secondary causes and is not the author of it, his Goodness is not compromised.
