As long as we don't artificially limit our access to energy, through government force, fossil fuels have hundreds of years of supply left - that we know of.

But the use of them now will allow us to continue to progress in wealth and technology. Future generations will figure out their own solutions. Be it finding more sources. Or discovering better and cheaper ways to access others energies. Which may end up being solar or something even better, like from the bonds between atoms in H2O.

Of course green energy isn't competitive on the market- it isn't nearly as efficient as fossil fuels. Nothing is as efficient as fossil fuels. Why do you assume that wholly invalidates renewable energy? We are going to run out of fossil fuels, and whether that is in 100 or 1,000 years doesn't matter. At some point our civilization will need renewable energy because there will be no alternative. Why not start supplementing now so our hydrocarbon supplies last for generations?

My dad was laughing up his sleeve at the naivete of the host and guest. While differentiating with respect to dollars was considered crass in his day, it still was part of the engineers training. He told me that once commercials ran showing windmills stopping and Danes cursing over the intermittent nature of the power source. Evidently, the dams of the west, largely public works, mostly successful, laid the ground work for socialists to think government can influence good power plant design.

I spent 50 years in real-world engineering, working on both government and commercial projects.

None of the projects I worked on would have been started if there wasn't a provable positive financial outcome at the outset. This doesn't seem to be the case for the recent government-sponsored "green programs".

Obama is a phony and a failure. I hope my fellow Americans see this in time.

Her old workplace sounds like one of the villainous companies in Atlas Shrugged.
