the shaft has a groove on it, align it on the plate then install lock plate tool and compress the plate spring when it compresses fully reinstall the snao ring. don't put to much pressure on it ot it'll go south.

  • I used a Lock plate tool to remove the plate, went smooth.....now im trying to put my Lockplate back on & cant see how on earth to do it usingthe lock plate tool. ...Any advice? Anyone? Took it of just fine, but see no way of putting it back on. Help? anybody?

  • that was educational

  • im in the middle of the toughest fix of my life with this column crap! just take it to a shop and save the headaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i had the same problem.and i took it a part and now i have to replace the hole column.the front bearing was shot ..

  • Better to replace the column at this point. This happened on my Olds when I tried to hammer off the steering wheel to fix the turn signal switch. Live and learn.
