An old sound only file I found and one I always liked, First Manchester 30297 (GM Buses 5314 if we want to be proper) is fairly indicative of the somewhat unhealthy fleet the company were running towards the end of 2004. (see other files I have on this page, nearly all the First Manchester files are from the same time period). Anyway the hubs were sounding a little rough on the journey on an 80 from Piccadilly out towards Middleton.
The bus was fixed before being withdrawn shortly afterwards (they seem to do that a lot!) Was still on tape cassette at the time which didn't cope particularly well with some of the bigger road bumps but there we go.
Very sad that nearly all of this unique batch of Northern Counties bodied metrobuses were scrapped and were fairly run into the ground beforehand too - these were among the company's flagship buses in the late 80s. A couple are preserved, and 1 went over to Sri Lanka I believe (30293 d310 jvr if I remember correctly)
Sounded really knackered and worn out!!
