  • There is a bright side. If all the economy tanks completely in the next few years the dems. won't have anyone to blame. They control everything.

  • That's true. If they goof up in a few years, they can't blame the GOP because they will hold all branches of office.

  • when dole lost i was ecstatic! she ran a dreadful election campaign against a sunday school teacher with allegations hagan was a godless anti-American. Dole is pathetic and good riddance her sorry attempt to start an old fashioned witch hunt back fired.

  • I'm glad Dole lost. She said Hagan was an Athiest (which she is not). Even if she was an Athiest, so what? People have the right to belive anything they want, which is one of the great things about our country.

  • I liked Dole but she was just using NC to stay around in Washington. At the time I was mad Dole lost but looking back I am glad, we got a good senator now, Hagan's a nice lady. The whole Atheist thing was a stupid Idea that backfired epically.

  • @Kippe1702 atheists are banned from running for office in NC.

  • Dole learned not to mess with us atheists...

  • I couldn't agree more. The moment she crossed the line of judging her faith, she turned off a lot of people.

  • fillibusters dont happen as much as the media plays. The GOp had 55 senate setas up to 2006 and they always got their agenda passed. all you really need in most bills is 51 votes. Thus the 60 doesnt matter for the most part. Plus fillibusters are rarely party line. so even with 58 or 59, the DEMs can still block them. Thats if they happen

  • If you think that then you haven't been paying attention. Some Repub. like McCain and Bush tried to push regulation on Fannie and Freddie when they started to suffer but some of the more prominent democrats blocked it. There was fault on both sides. The dems. tried to cover up their mistakes by blaming Republicans.

  • No, that's not true. The Dems still don't have quite enough seats to block the possible Republican filibusters. So the Republicans can still throw a wrench in the machinery.

  • In future, many will make contributions to Dole's campaign (if she dares to run for office again), and then reveal themselves as atheists.

The bitter fruit you serve, Elizabeth, will come back to your own plate.
