First I must apologize as I couldn't watch this all the way through. Are these people real? I thought this video was going to be a farce and I guess it is. I remember when he had busses round up the winos throughout the city to vote for him and were paid in malt liquor. Wish I was lying but I'm not. I remember when the people used to burn the town down every Oct.30. I see video now and the city looks like downtown Beirut. So happy to live in Jersey now. Detroit looks best in the rearview mirror.

White people left in droves after the "67" riots, in additoion to the burgeoning black community. The riots were brought on due to white people racism and police brutality. So what do you remember the white people as? By the way i'm from detroit born and raised.

Just the opposite, he was a polarizing leader during the an important time when Detroit needed a healer. His administration was one of the causes of the exodus and disinvestment of Detroit. Other cities including Los Angeles and SF had Black mayors that did not create overwhelming fear. Coleman Young is should not be remembered as a successful nor significant mayor but rather as a mayor who was instrumental in the decline of Detroit.
