@ResidentLR Well the SDI wasn't a "Real Weapon" it was a way of scaring the Russians mainly - used as a bargaining chip - that is why I say it was a brilliant plan (a win win situation if you will)... If it worked great, it would work as a deterrence of the growing Nuclear Russian Threat; and at the same time whether you'd like to admit it to yourself or not it assisted in advancing the countries ICBM Defense System well into the future. Last time I checked Nuclear defense is an actual reality.

@globe199 Well, I went to school, so I don't need to look up the SDI. It is basically the "Star Wars" plan which was a dumb idea that failed to get off the ground and cost millions (maybe billions) in R and D. You are aware that while "Reaganomics" wanted to decrease taxes, it was focused in governement control of taxpayer's money and government regulation of the economy. By military spending, I meant the unneccesarily massive buildup of conventional, strategic, and nuclear arms.

@ResidentLR If by huge government expansion you mean assisting the Western European countries economically - in order to deter Russian and German influence at the time, then yes I will agree with you Reagan was "crazy for expansion"..

and about Military spending. Using nuclear technology inorder to deter the Russian nuclear threat seems genius. Look up Space Defense Initiative. It doesn't get any better than that my friend.
