Searching for various species of rockfish as well as cabezon, and others. A steep and narrow path is the only access up here to the chilly 49 degree water below which hosts a variety of marine life. This day we are treated to 40 foot plus visibility and excellent ocean conditions, perfect for filming and spearfishing. Holding our breath, we dive through the pristine kelp forests, boulders, and reefs, exploring this diverse marine habitat. Divers Austin and Joey hunt for a few select species which were promptly made into delicious fish tacos after filming.

  • Dude there's no denying ur an amazing spearo, but dont u worry about stringing the fish to ur body? I live in cape town south africa and there's too many bad ass sharks to take that kind of chance.

  • There are white sharks around here, but the trade off makes it worth the risk.

When diving in heavy kelp often a few hundred yards offshore there is no way to effectively tow a float with a stringer because it will just keep tangling up and make it impossible for a spearo to cover much ground. Sometimes we bring out an inflatable float with a gamebag and make trips back and fourth unloading fish into the gamebag if we will be hunting for a while, this day we were only out for around 45 mins.

  • Great work on your videos, Austin! Do you mind telling how your camera's rigged? It doesn't look like its on your gun?

  • @1byronq: Camera in left hand, gun in right hand.
