  • Between Emmanuelle and Natalie I can't figure out who is the better musician. They are both outstanding in this and, fortunately, they seem to be good friends and pay attention to each other.. so the results are good for me. A one click on Amazon or a search on you tube ( or both) and just look what comes my way. When I started buying classical music in my kid days what I was buying were 45 RPMs (which I had to save up for) and there wasn't exactly an infinite selection.

  • @MrHbc3 Things have certainly changed! There is SO much music available so easily nowadays! And yes, I agree - they bring a mystical, colourful sound to the Baroque which is fascinating. I love the repertoire they've done together - Handel's Arcadian Duets, Dixit Dominus, Il Trionfo, and Giulio Cesare, Bach Cantatas, and some Monteverdi...hopefully they do another collaboration soon! :)

  • Beautifully sung but a lot of scooping for my taste

  • @Arsenate22 I love Bach and I think Natalie really brings something fresh to the music, but yes admittedly she is definitely more convincing as an operatic soprano. :P

  • @apblondon20 Bach himself wrote the oboe for the bass version, then changed it to flute for the soprano version, because there are two versions of the cantata! :) The bass one is also in c minor, while the soprano one is in e minor. :)

  • @SsteinwayS yes, I think that the flute is very well suited to this movement of the cantata. Do you know whether Bach himself allocated the line to the oboe (as it says on the score), or the flute? Thanks!

  • @apblondon20 I agree...I like the flute better, but I have heard beautiful things done with the oboe in the bass version of the cantata.

  • That oboe line is simply sublime.

  • @piotrsmierzwa You're welcome! What a beautiful image! So glad you enjoyed it as much as I did!
