Michael Jackson had Lupus, an autoimmune disease. He also had Vitiligo, a skin disorder that is commonly associated with Lupus. After years of fighting his Vitiligo and covering it up with various cosmetics, Michael chose the final solution, what many people elect to do when the disease escalates to advanced stages. This procedure is called Depigmentation. Depigmentation removes the remaining pigment so all of the skin is one tone. Depigmentation results in extreme sensitivity to the sun and increased risk of various forms of skin cancer.

Because of reduced immunity and his susceptibility to sun related complications, Michael kept his skin covered, wore face masks, and used umbrellas to protect his health.

A plethora of information is available regarding Lupus and Vitiligo. Enclosed are several links.
