Ginny Simone talks to Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) about "the bipartisan Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act (S. 1249) to help provide additional shooting ranges in appropriate places on public lands. The bill would amend the Pittman-Robertson Act by adjusting the funding limitations so that states are better able to create and maintain shooting ranges." - NRA News - October 12, 2011 - http://www.NRANews.com

  • Not the government place but i agree we need more gun ranges

  • This is a great idea. It's about time we had some pro gun legislation for a change. In this crime ridden day that we live in, we need as many trained gun owner "good guys" as we can get.

  • We've got a great range here in Los Angeles. Its most of MLK Blvd. Every Friday and Saturday night gangs have free range.

  • There's a good range in the Northern Virginia area (Blue Ridge Arsenal). However, I would like to be within a reasonable distance of a range that would allow me to fire something larger than .30-06, for example, a .338.

  • While I whole-heartedly agree that our government is too large, remember that the Constitution does provide Congress the power "To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress" in Article 1, Section 8.

  • Government should be small or not exist at all because they negatively effect the free market ... The Free-markets should handle gun ranges not Government.

  • govt. support for the second amendment? does the govt. provide speaking lessons to support the first amendment? if the private economy fails to be able to support it, forget it. we need fewer laws rather than more, less spending rather than more. anyone who lacks the intelligence to pick spots to target shoot that are safe for other recreational users of the land should never be shooting in the first place

  • @mrrobotica Though I generally agree with you, and in this economy and with so much national debt I think the money can be better used elsewhere I do like the fact that not only does the government protect our rights, they support them. This sounds like an excellent addition to the CMP.

  • It's not the place of governments to take on these kinds of projects. Please spend my money protecting people's rights and nothing else. The government should be protecting existing private ranges from the governments, not just replacing them with public ranges.
