Rant and opinion on REALISTIC self defence/martial arts training for wheelchair users. Part 1

Disclaimer: It is not my intention to upset anybody, although I suspect I may. I feel that kindness is found in honesty, not in sugar-coating the facts. I have no problem with anybody partaking in physical activities; my issues are with certain training methods being SOLD as effective self defence for the real world. Martial arts for exercise is one thing, but self defence for the street is something else entirely.
I've never instructed a wheelchair user before, although I do have a student who is legally disabled and have worked with many who have pre-existing injuries.

  • @tacprotection You really needs to edit this its coming off bad..You might have some points but this video is like a shotgun blast... puts way tomany down in a very condescending way.On youtube ive seen security videos of people in wheelchairs being almost beat to death.and many times had they had training and a ASP Baton they could have defended thenselfs well enough to survive an attack.Rather then putting disable down in this video and the teachers who teach bad techniques show us Better tech

  • this guy reminds me of a armchair karate master..ive been in fights both on crutches and chair. his opinion is that of some one of limited knowledge of both disabled and what they can and cant do and seems to be lomited on selfdefense..but he his one or to points many teach make work techniques has opinion on punching is half true..He also admits he hasnt taught disabled

  • Yes their are people out their teaching rubbish but their teaching 1000 times more able bodied people then people in wheelchairs. Rubbish is rubbish however their are some people who teach practical self defense. Their are some very talented chair bound people out their, they require so much more dedication, practice & drive. I think you need to separate the two very different points. your coming across like your ragging on people in chairs not to people teaching crap to everyone.

  • I will approach this more constructively now. There are some very effective fighters that have proven their skill in actual combat. It maybe a good idea to do further research into this subject

  • The lowest opinion uttered..."you should quit"

  • First of all, do not lump all wheelchair users together. We are quite capable of doing things that you do, we may just have to find a different way of doing them & if anything, the wheelchair can be as much of a weapon as anything else, be it a stick or whatever. You should really do some research or talk to a variety of wheelchair users before you post something like this.
