Part 2. This is what happened to a 15" Lanzar LP154 woofer that we rented out to a DJ. The amp used was a Crown CT-400 which the DJ hooked up incorrectly in bridged mono mode: The CT-400 is not rated for bridged operation into a 4 ohm load, but, as it turned out, that was not the weak link! The result is an excellent example of a thoroughly "blown" voice coil. The voice coil winding was overpowered to such a degree (pun intended) that the epoxy holding the wire to the voice coil bobbin charred and finally let go. This speaker will have to be reconed, and it's definitely NOT a "under warranty" type of repair.
