I want to thank Independent Lens for having this on Public TV (PBS) ...

I was in Vietnam in 67 and 68.

I do THANK these brave citizens for having the courage to stand up and face persecution at Chicago to END THE WAR. I am positive that had the people of this country not stood up to the government we would have remained in the war, and many more of us would have never made it back...

It is very timely that this is being shown again NOW ... we are in ANOTHER endless war! Have your voice heard.

People didn't take to the streets in any large numbers to protest the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for two simple reasons: those wars were faught by volunteer forces and with borrowed money. If our leaders had told us in advance that there would be a draft to recruit soldiers and a tax increase to fund the costs of the wars, they never would have happened. Now, we're left with a ballooning deficit, soldiers redeployed 4+ times, and, yes, a complacent, out-of-touch public.
