I was one of the kids that helped build this playground! And yes, not only are we all adults now, a lot of us are parents ourselves. Sadly, they tore this playground down quite a while ago but the memory of building it lives on in all of us who helped create it close to 30 years ago. More projects like this should exist today!
It's nice to see this online after so many years! I produced, directed and shot this video for Sesame Street. The terrific crew consisted of Gill and Arlyse McDowell and Eddie O'Conner. Michael Grenadier did a wonderful job of editing.
All the best to those kids -- now adults -- who became fans of this video.
This playground was built in the late 80's and demolished in 1997. I think there was arsenic in the wood. It was replaced with a metal structure.
This was an era when outdoor recess was considered necessary for health. Today, the kids are at their desks from 8-3 and have recess in the classroom. No wonder they can't concentrate!
@pokinsmot It is and it isn't. The playground structure you see here was replaced at some point with new structure. I've been trying to find out if Bob Leathers, the playground architect in this clip, had any hand in designing the current structure.

You notice that the finished playground here had almost NOTHING that the kids decided on?
