Tree Style Tab, an add-on for Mozilla Firefox now have animation effects (on version 0.7.2009040901.) This video is an demonstration of animation effects on vertical tab tree on Shiretoko, aka Firefox 3.5 beta.
With mostly wide screens nowadays IMHO vertical tabs should be the default anyways. It's especially useful on laptops, where the screen may be 1280 pixels wide but only 800 pix high. The only pages that needed more than 1000 pixels in width simply had a broken layout, but almost every page scrolls vertically. So every pixel you can save in height makes browsing much more efficient (not to mention the effect you get through the displayed hierarchy).
Many thanks for this great extension! A must for every fresh FF installation (together with mouse gestures and tab mix plus). I'm using it since TBE, which I used since Mozilla days, weren't supported anymore (which really made me worry at that time; but I'm glad because - unbelieveably - something much better emerged). I'm not so much a fan of visual effects though (but as long as they can be switched off, I'm OK ;-) did the same to all win7 effects)
