  • You've been doing such amazing work on the C1. You are a real inspiration. Great composition.

  • Hi sigiriuk

    Thanks!

Really good to hear that you like the composition :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • I was hoping you could tell me if bass lines on organ are usually played legato or staccato?

You sound great by the way!

  • Thanks Mr Melodious Thunk!

    Normally legato I would say.

Skin contact, no bouncing. Accents/grace notes and syncopation now and then for variation, but the steady quarter note walking bass line is the foundation.

Listening tips: as always Jimmy Smith, but when it comes to left hand jazz organ walking bass lines Richard 'Groove' Holmes was maybe the best.

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Absolutely magnificent! Thanks.

  • Hi Sycsa

The Organ Grinder's Swing is always on my short list :-)

It is a wonderful song, and the best version in my book is the 1965 trio version: Jimmy Smith, Kenny Burrell and Grady Tate, on the record with the same name.

Another great version is the 1993 trio recording: Jimmy Smith, Kenny Burrell and Jimmie Smith, from the record 'The Master'.

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Hi sebby

    Thanks!

Good to hear that you like my 'screaming' chorus. That stretch is as far as my small grubby hands permits me going :-) And when I reached for that position I though I might as well keep it there for a while :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Thanks SBtrombone!

I have very little experience with plug-in's, although I know that some of them are very good!

4-octave (49 keys?) sounds a bit too little in my ears. 61 keys would be better, as you will need space for your left hand bass lines. If it is possible to split the keyboard and have a dedicated area for the deep bass it will sound better. But, I'm no expert at all here...

You have choosen the exact right player to be fascinated by: the Incredible J.O.S!

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Octave + 5th stretch :D nice....and effective in the context of the composition!
