Brother AquaViva is right, actually. Emmaretta is also the lead vocalist on Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster" and The Charlie Daniels Band's "Legend Of Wooly Swamp" (It's time to stamp out the Southern Rock lies!). She also invented the combination lock, the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, and threw for 647 yards and 5 TD's in Super Bowl VIII. She is currently the Associate Dean of The College of Economics at Cornell University.

@jaggerknightofqueen Unfortunately, you don't have the King's English.

Listen nobody is out to get the Rolling Stones I myself love them but it's wrong that Merry Clayton has taken credit for Emmaretta's singing and that the Rolling Stones failed to credit her at all as The Author of the Iconic Intro and for her singing that is on the subsequent releases of Gimmie Shelter, remember Millie Vanillie they claimed to be singing on their CD release and were prosecuted for that lie..and apparent Fraud..!

@DuneAquaViva I have to correct this Devon Wilson was still alive at this time, those chilling Rape Murders are do to Emmaretta having herself been raped, Devon who was to be a roommate of Emmaretta's in Woodstock since she had cleaned up she was prior to that beaten a needle stuck in her arm where she had never shot up and was then thrown from a 6 story building window.. Also listen to this supposed intro and that of the actually release this may be a skillful ploy by The Stones!

@stardate1804 ..that squeal that gets some weird harmonic going...thats a highlight of the whole track for sure
-
We're hoping to get a voice print analysis done to show just how much of Gimmie Shelter and full version not just this is Emmaretta Marks talking to Audio Consultants now for just such a purpose..!

@rahzel101 No it's Emmaretta singing the Intro which she created she sang on 7 different cuts for Jimi Hendrix as well Merry Steps on her tracks in places but Intro and Rape Murders are Emmaretta who was herself a victim of rape..Go see Emmaretta Marks The True Diva of Gimmie Shelter Here Part 1, then part II, she also went out with Keith, been with Mick after Altamont and also Brian Jones and Bill Wyman...

DuneAquaViva;Maybe someone should tell the Stones.I have both the vinyl and digital copies of Let It Bleed. Both say the vocal on this song is Merry. In interviews, both Keith and Mick have said it was Merry, many times.
You say this Emmaretta person sang on 7 tracks, and got no credit for any of it,while the individual contributions of Merry,Clydie, and Veneta are meticulously credited.Makes no sense. What would the Stones' motivation be?Sorry, not buying it.You related to her,by any chance?
I could listen to 2:51 - 2:54 on a loop for the rest of my life and never tire of it.
