Avocado from seed - pruning seed

This video won't mean a lot to you unless you have been following progress over at http://www.squidoo.com/growing-avocado-from-seed, where we have been following the growth of an avocado seed from just a seed in a jam jar.

The dilemma "To prune or not to prune" presented itself, most people saying this would be good for the avocado. Unfortunately, tragedy struck before the decision could be taken, the avocado, erm, didn't get watered and dried up. So there's nothing to be lost by pruning it now, and there are SOME indications that it's trying to resurrect itself, so, without further ado, here we go...

did it develop side branches? Could you put another video on youtube? I have a lot of avocado seeds alredy sprouted waiting to be pruned. But I'm in doubt...

Hey, YES, it's growing great! I know, it's a real dilemma, I was procrastinating for MONTHS, but now I am glad I did it! I will try to post a video, so look out for it - I am going to prune my other plant too, soon!

I will post something at the Squidoo page, but basically it IS sprouting! I can't believe it :) There are a number of shoots, most of them nearer the top, so I'm pretty sure it's going to make it. I will definitely prune my other one now too! (the one I didn't "kill"!)

The avocados that i have planted in dirt first have died. the ones that i put in the water first all thrive. I have come to the conclusion that you do need to soak in the water first. you must fertilize them also. I use a compost also in my dirt and come out beautiful.

Avocado trees naturally experience a dormant period during winter. This is triggered by the shortening daylight hours in the fall and even affects trees that are indoors and kept at a constant temperature. During the dormant period their leaves dry up and some fall off. This is what I think happened to your plant. If you're patient, just wait and in the spring, when the days get longer, the plant will sprout again. So, don't be surprised when it happens again next year at the same time. Cheers.

hehehe, i found a way around watering your avacado, i forget to water a lot of plants, so i'm gonna grow mine using hydroponics.
