1987 Elizabeth Manley - Exhibition

For most Americans, Liz Manley burst onto the scene with a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics. TV coverage of her 1987 World effort was no doubt pre-empted by a college basketball game. She was a strong and competent athlete, and everyone loves it when a skater puts it all together with bells and whistles. Her Olympics free skate is a joyous experience. This is a Jimmy Fund performance on the way up! Canadian skaters are lucky in that they have the opportunity to skate in French!

Her free skate at the Worlds was actually covered by CBS Sports in prime time. Unfortunately, she only completed one triple jump.

thanks for the info. In Atlanta, unfortunately, skating is often pre-empted for college or pro basketball! I must have missed it....best wishes

I don't know which Liz Manley you're referring to, but the Liz Manley the skating community knows won a SILVER medal at the 1988 Olympics.

Actually, the coverage of the 1987 Worlds on CBS was quite messed up by pre-emption issues in some markets. I know that in the city I lived in back then, the local affiliate pre-empted it and instead of showing the ladies' final to us live, waited to show it until Sunday night after the late news!
