Yarbrough and Peoples was an R&B duo from Dallas, Texas. The duo consisted of Cavin Yarbrough (background vocals/keyboardist) and Alisa Peoples (lead vocalist). They were discovered by Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band, and signed to the Total Experience Production in 1980.

Their biggest hit single was "Don't Stop the Music" (Pop #19, R&B #1 from 5 weeks in 1981), from their debut album The Two of Us, released in 1980. The song was the very last song to be played on the television series The Midnight Special. The album went gold, peaking at #16 in the Billboard Hot 200 album chart. The UK single release of "Don't Stop The Music" also reached #7 in the UK Singles Chart, early the following year.

  • Lucky you! You know what my era of music is? Crappy Soulja Boy and Lil' Wayne! I wish I was a teenager in 1981! ^_^ I bet it must have been fun being young in the 80s!

  • Music in the 80's was just plain fun and you could dance to it!!! Music now is mean and filthy, sickening really~ Also they can't come with their own beats, they have to "sample" from everyone elses. I loved being a teen in the 80's! Class of 84"

  • @barnesfam i'm wondering how you'd like the book Good Girl Revolution by Shallit. Check it out. I think you might find it empowering. Keep shining

  • @MADDOG6400 it really was! it gave a very optimistic view on life, especially being so much music was positive and upbeat--especially the sound of it. See how powerful music is? I WISH the80s were here again--so it's up to us to bring it back! Its great you recognize it!

  • @emeraldstream Thanks :). And I will visit your site and keep in touch.

  • @barnesfam That is very perceptive and amazingly astute of you. I am like a decade older and DO remember the world, and the sudden shift. I feel like it happened around the mid to late 90s. It was a quantum shift . I am hoping the world is about to shift again--wake up call to get the planet back in alignment? It's amazing you had this awareness at 5-6, and 17! Happy Bday...You can visit my site and keep in touch @ emeralddust . com.

  • @emeraldstream I always thought the world started to change when the 21st century came in, the year 2000 or after 9/11 happened. I was very young in the 90s. Most of the 90s I can't remember because I was born in '93 (I'll be 17 on tuesday), but I can remember the late 90s when I was around 5 and 6 and I could swear the world was a little different back then.

  • @barnesfam It's like the consciousness of the world got hijacked somewhere in the 90s. So many feel this way... How to bring it back to normal/healthy is the question... It's great that you are in tune with it--its a good sign. Some don't know anything could be better!
