  • As a cop of 12 years and MMA fan, employing "sport" fighting techniques and going to the ground on purpose will get one hurt eventually. If you do your job worrying about getting sued, you will be hurt or killed. End the threat quickly and decisively with overwhelming force and go home safely. THAT is key.

  • I'm not teaching these officers "sport fighting techniques" I am giving them confidence!! , So when they interacts with a suspect and that suspect tests that officer and he/she cowers down, because they are scared that is a big problem. My philosophy is if you are that scared, you need to find another line of work. This is a very dangerous job and you got to have the right mind set to go home safely every night.

  • MMA isn't sutable for the police. It excludes the most effective strike areas - eyes, mouth, balls, knee breaking etc. Krav Maga is more suitable.

  • Being a police officer for five years in Metro Nashville and a instructor for Nashville MMA. Under metro policy less force is key for not getting sued. So controling an individual without hurting him/her is no use of force paperwork. Soft empty hand(Grappling,Body pressure)is key and has worked ten fold for me on the streets. Spyder...

  • BEWARE THE SPYDER-MAN!!!!!

  • yes Nashville Metro will be my future proffesion

  • Cheers to you and your folks Spydergracie!!! I have deployed Martial Arts from long mid, and close ground range since 1984. I really like how you folks ease the practitioners into the ground element. It is easy to see that the guys on the video are about learning and not ego....that's a reflection on the instructor as well. Good luck in all you do and keep practicing!

  • Good stuff syder. Dont listen to these guys. Any type of martial art is going to give you an edge over someone who dosent practice any martial art. Hell, these two officers on this vid are an inspiration, considering alot of officers are out-of-shape must less doing any type of martial art. Keep it up

  • man you guys down in Nashville. I am going down there to become a cop. I can live without the NYPD

  • For twenty years I have heard officers saying they had to fight a suspect. In reality, the suspect was trying to escape; not actually attacking the officer. If it's a fight for your life, then the Force Continuum-(Does your department have a Force Continuum? If it does, you apparently do not follow it.), goes out the window. It is time for what I refer to as, (MAD DOG MEAN!!), anything goes, inflict pain! If you loose a fight, you could die. I DON'T PLAY; I QUIT SCHOOL BECAUSE OF RECESS.

  • You've got a point there. Not getting sued is quite important. ;P I guess you're right.
