Grand Mufti was of Bosnian descent. In1776, the Bosnian Mamluk Ahmad al-Jazzar gained the regional power and governed Sidon and Damascus until 1804. In 1799 his troops defended Acre against an attack by Napoleon’s French forces. At that time Jerusalem was the largest city south of Acre, but it still had less than 10,000 people. Sulaiman Pasha al-Adil had been in Jazzar’s household, and he governed 1805-19. His successor Abdallah Pasha ruled until 1832 and fought the rural clans.

@rza1m Actually this is not true.
The Palestinians declared war at 48 because they did not want to share the land with the Jews like the UN planned. They wanted to get it all. During the war the Palestinian leaders urged their people to temporarily leave their homes so it will be easier for the Arab armies to fight the Jews. It just happened that all of the Arabs got their ass handed to them and they lost. Israel never wanted the land,it became under Israeli control by the circumstance.

@Sinissmooth It's not the Palestinians that are being murdered to have their land occupied. Israel has TAKEN by force over 90% of Palestinian land. If someone was taking my land like that i would fight back too.

@jakefree25 Most of the people in the West don't know these events ever happened...But it's the Western media's fault...Every time something happens in Israel, they present the Palestinians as "oppressed" and the Israelis as "ruthless"...If this is not called "brainwashing", then the term "brainwashing" loses its real meaning.
