If those balance issues have been ironed out in the remakes... you know, so that you no longer have a situation where the game gives you three base units to choose from and you will probably lose most fights you aren't significantly overlevelled for if you DON'T use all Gremlins, because the enemies are often smart enough to do so... God DAMN Gremlins, how I hated you...
The new versions may well be worth looking into. The graphical upgrade looks pretty nice, smooth and sparkly.

I played through the original fairly recently. The core gameplay was solid, and everything worked fairly well, though getting through the campaign was at moments frustratingly difficult.
The serious storyline seems a bit oddly matched to the gameplay, especially given the profound silliness of some of the bosses, most notably the gigantic stomach thing in Act 2, but is still well told. I did have a big problem with the balance of Gremlins and abandonment of the money system in the last act.

@SilentJayzz Still a grid but the combat's waaaay different. Jean d' arc was alot of fun though. If you still have a psp you should try the tactics ogre remake if you really liked Jean d' arc

This would be better for a handheld.

@junior2oo It was originally on the nintendo DS, which it was awesome on. Although this new version did rebalance some of the units, for instance humans got waaaay better.
