Anthony Quayle as Oedipus, and Juliet Stevenson plays Antigone.

Sophocles' "Oedipus at Colonus" (1984) TV broadcast.

my VHS tape of this broadcast isn't as good as the "Oedipus the King", especially the audio.

  • It is certainly true: No matter how much fun and revealing reading maybe but plays had to be performed! Though the image quality is not so good I would rather watch ten good plays in bad quality than one bad play in good quality! There should be a law constraining that bad plays, movies or music has to be made in bad quality as well. And shame that so few of the plays of Sophocles did survive malignant time; the old Greek poets would even shake the throne of Shakespeare else!

  • God, Juliet Stevenson is SO good in this!

  • "I did not intend any of these actions! I ENDURED THEM! -- . . . . The gods took their pleasure upon me-"

  • watched the trilogy out of order, still enjoyed that each really stand on their own.

  • Beautiful production of this thought-provoking classic.

  • What the hell?
