The film was shot native in 1.78:1 or (16:9) Mike. CinemaScope was extracted for 2D theaters at the cost of some of the image on the top and bottom.

@drnegative69 So that means T2 that was shot 'scope should be only put out in 4:3?

The 2D version was exibited in 2.35:1, this is the 2D version it should be in OAR

just wondering why you didn't wait until Nov to get the ultimate bluray of avatar? It will be in 3d with like a few different versions of the film.

@dvdmike007 Nah T2 aside, Ill take OAR any day of the week, you can keep the black-bars to yourself ;P Of course some 2D cinemas had 1.78:1 shown on them too. It really depended on what theater screen they had.
