Badfinger Bridge

The note you never wrote, a Christmas card un-sent
No regrets and no accusations
A fading photograph tucked in a paperback
from a shop that closed long ago

A passing motorcar rings out our yesterdays tune

And you are returned to me, you are returned to me
address unknown

A faded old receipt form a favorite restaurant
for an audit not likely coming
And in my winter coat a ticket stub reveals
theres a sequel to the last film we saw.

As passers-by chatter I chance to hear your name

And you are returned to me, you are returned to me
address unknown

And I recall a basement sublet nearby
that we took your junior year
your fathers disapproving checks came every month, thank God.

The you in Kodachrome, the way we used to be
all regrets and big disappointments
The lines beneath my eyes, the path beneath my feet
cracking up like we did so well.

A passing motorcar rings out some familiar tune

And you are returned to me, you are returned to me
address unknown

  • thanks again, I REALLY appreciate the positive vibes (especially about my vocals- it was only a one day session so we didn't have a lot of time to pussy foot around with the vocals: 2 takes, a couple of fixes and that was it). If you really want to hear the bass tone, check out the b-side to this on iTunes

  • Thanks for all your lovely comments. They mean a lot to me. This song was a real labor of love, paying tribute to one of my favorite bands (Badfinger) and recording in the home of the Beatles.
