  • Hey everyone,

Ive been surfing on and off for about six months and i am really keen to get my own board. I'm not that experienced in different kinds of board. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a beginner board. I've been riding a friend of mine's short board so that's what i would prefer.

If you have any ideas you help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  • shorter boards are better. i have a 5'6 and have surfed 10ft. waves on it. hes right it gets you in and out of spots on the wave. besides smaller boards are easier to air on too so theres a plus. there easier to control cause there isnt much to throw around. smaller boards are just 10x better.

  • @darylonetwothree is that new? thats cheap what about a board thats a little better than a beginner but still great to learn on?

  • @HappierHealthierYou For a decent beginner board I would say about 100-300 maybe even cheaper.

  • how much does a decent board cost? basically if you are a beginer, but are pretty athletic with good balance. Also a board that would be good enough where you would not need to upgrade for a year or two?

  • everybody just watch the dam video and shut the fuck up

  • The solution is simple and George Greenough already thought of it 40 years ago - the flex spoon knee machine. He ripped on it and I don't think anyone else will improve on what he was doing.

  • ....though body surfers at Waimea are wearing flippers most likely

  • As for the short as hell twin fin I tried, well it was fun in small surf. But I won't even attempt larger surf cos I hate getting caught inside, or fighting to keep a short board stable in juicy/hollow surf. For larger 5-6 foot plus surf I say go atleast 6'.but 6'5+ would be a big more control, and fun as all hell!..

  • For all around surf sm-to-med size surf, I myself would go no shorter than 5'10". But if you're shorter then I am(I'm 6'2"), then yes you can go a little shorter.

Fyi- even @ my height, I managed to ride a 5'3-5'4 knee board in 2-3 foot surf. Get me in sizy 5-6 foot surf and I'm grabbing 6'9" X 19 1/4" gunny single wing rp-hands down.

Might work well as a tri? Ask ur shaper.
