So as the video explains, ujjayi breathing is so important because it's a means we can use to regulate how quickly the air enters and leaves our lungs. The sound comes about because we're slightly shutting the air passage by contracting the epiglottis, and the friction causes noise. Practicing this over time will gradually help to slow down and improve the quality of your breathing.
One of my teachers, Srivatsa Ramaswami says that many yogis believed that a person's lifespan was not measured in number of years, but number of breaths. Yogis would say that we're only given a certain number of breaths in one lifetime. If you breathe more slowly, you're lifespan will increase, and vice versa. Though it's more of a story, the idea is clear. When I'm working with students, one of the first health indicators I look for is how well they breathe. The faster and shallower you breath, the less you'll be able to oxygenate your system, and the less healthy it will generally be. Watch for a new video on the topic at some point.
Dear Mr. Lance thanks for demonstrating Ujjayi Breathing pose, you have very nicely related it to the ocean wave sound, with this it become easy to perform this pose more accurately. I will add this exercise in my daily Yoga Practice. In this way you are added to teachers list.
Thanks & Regards
