Title: The Raggle Taggle Gypsy
Artist: The Chieftains & Nickel Creek
Album: Further Down The Old Plank Road

There were three old gypsies
came to our house door
they came brave and bawdy, oh
the one sang high and the other sang low
and the other sang a raggle taggle gypsy, oh

it was upstairs, downstairs the lady went,
put on her suit of leather, oh
and there was a cry from around the door
she's away with the raggle taggle gypsy, oh

it was late that night that the lord came in
inquiring for his lady, oh
and the servant girl she says to the lord,
she's away with the raggle taggle gypsy, oh

well saddle for me my milk white steed,
my big horse is not speedy, oh,
I'm 'a ride, I'm 'a seek my bride,
she's away with the raggle taggle gypsy, oh

well he rode he east, and he rode west,
he rode north and south or so,
until he came to a wide open field
it was there that he spotted his lady, oh

tell me how could you leave your goose feather bed,
your blankets strewn so comely, oh
how could leave, you've nowhere to go,
all for the raggle taggle gypsy, oh

well what do I care for my goose feather bed
for my blankets strewn comely, oh
tonight I lie in the wide open field
in the arms of a raggle taggle gypsy, oh

tell me how could you leave your house and your land,
how could you leave your money, oh
how could leave your own good lord
all for that raggle taggle gypsy, oh

well what do I care for my house and my land
and what do I care for money, oh
I'd rather have a kiss from the yellow gypsy lips
I'm away with the raggle taggle gypsy, oh

I'm away with the raggle taggle gypsy, oh

  • Celtic Thunder is missing the soul and essence of traditional Irish music. its all polished to appeal to the masses.

besides, sneekypat has it right: celtic thunder has got nuthin on the cheiftains, nor the rovers for that matter.

  • this song is wicked good i wish celtic thunder did the full version!

  • I saw them do this one live with Alison Moorer, and it was dynamite. Too bad they haven't recorded that version. It had a lovely fire to it.

  • @BoutiqueHairbows i guess if you like cheezy ass gay musical elements with your folk music.

  • Good song but retarded name

  • @dreadsherpa i can understand what you mean but Celtic Thunder does an amazing job and brings something new and (better) to it!

  • Why would anyone dislike this?

  • My dad used to sing this to me...brings back a lot of good memories..thanks for posting

  • This is my favorite version. The chieftains are great!

  • @LushOfOld518 None of ever any versions come near to the Scafell Pike version my friend. The problem is, that it is very difficult to purchase or find it.....

  • I love the Chieftains. This song kept my toes a jumping and taping what ever. I also listened and produced my own video hopefully it will be a response to this great song.

    Ron! From Canada!
