The US state of Kentucky has a large white working class population similar to the state of West Virginia, which Hilary Clinton won overwhelmingly last week.

In both states there's polling evidence to suggest that at least some voters are not prepared to vote for a black candidate.

Al Jazeera's Mike Kirsch travelled to rural Kentucky where he found that for some old prejudices die hard.

  • great videos

  • For all of the people wondering,

Yeah this shit is true. Racism is quite alive in parts of America like this, with rednecks and white trash shits that are retarded.

    I'm white myself btw..

  • @melz791 I kind of agree with you. This was a major reason why Obama could not win West Virginia. Even if unemployment dropped to 5%, 10 million jobs created, Osama Bin Laden captured, success in Afghanistan, spend and deficits were under control, the troops home from Iraq, West Virginia would still not vote for Obama. I could be wrong. If Hillary was nominated she would have won West VA, Georgia, Missouri, Arkansas (maybe), and Kentucky (maybe). Her white vote would have been better.

  • "Manwich for $1.10!!!" - Classic

  • @melz791 where are you from in WV. I am also from WV and my family now lives in Kearneysville, although i think the majority of whites there voted for mccain out of fear racism and identification, i have to admit most of the whites i meet there seem a lot kinder to blacks than in some northern states of the country i go to in addition to that race-mixing here is of insane proportions compared to other parts of the u.s. i'd be interested in learning about your experiences in west virigina.

  • Just remember who comes from Augusta, Kentucky.

  • These people are so funny. They are second class and don't even realise it. Look at the way they live in these strange communities and without any culture or class. I mean they are buying "manwich" at an auction. It's pathetic. These people are so insignificant.

  • Wow, I can't believe people still think like that! It disgusts me. Those people need to pull their heads out of their asses. Too bad their problem is ignorance - they just don't know any better. If I were American, I too, would have voted for Obama without a doubt! He is a very inspiring, down to earth man (from what I can tell) and I think he will do great things!

  • Well now we are all equally first class citizens!!!
