not that the other parts of the series(excluding part I & II, didn't even play the first) are especially difficult...

I agree with you there, but part III and IV really aren't that difficult (IMO). I can (relatively) easily clear both with one life on default difficulty ... and with one Credit on "Mania" ... and I don't consider myself a skilled player by any means.
