Goodbye Marco...
One of the greatest experiences of my life was to be on Mount Ventoux to see you and Lance, two former Tour de France champions, battle each other up the final kilometer. I was also privileged to be there, at the finish line, for your final professional victory during the 2000 Tour de France atop Courchevel where you took Lance by 50 seconds. I got your autograph. Your comeback to win the 1998 edition of the Tour de France after shattering your leg in so many places made me a fan. I am sad that you have left and offer this small token of my admiration. You will always be a "Campione" to me.

  • I hope you realize that, that wasn't the finish to mt. ventoux in 2000. On mt. ventoux Pantani barely beat Lance and when I mean barely I mean less than a 1/2 second. I don't know what finish that is

  • Lance and Pantani's epic battle up Mount Ventoux is show up until the final corner 50 meters before the line. The scene showing Pantani clearly beating Lance is the stage to the ski station - Courchevel.

  • Two interesting points about that scene: 1) That was Pantani's last professional victory. 2) Lance got second that day even though you can clearly see a guy finish in front of Lance. That is because the guy in the Kelme kit was an impostor who jumped into the race on the climb to protest for Basque separation from Spain.

  • I love you video

  • I saw Pantani a few days later on the Col de Joux-Plane, after he'd blown, being dragged along by two teammates fifteen minutes after the leaders. It would be his last day in the Tour, ever.

  • translation of JackCimino:

sorry but i can't write it in english.. but that scream made by an american man.. i listened it about 10time and it made me shiver..

in that scream there is all the cicling, cicling has no flag, it only has great men!!!!!

look at my video of Pantani on "jackcimino"

  • lance amtrong is mr.drugs

  • Pantani was not reaching his top condition, that happens only in 1999 that Marco could trained without problems in winter.

Also in 1998 he wasnt' reaching his top condition, due to problems on the legs that he broke in 1995.

In Italy Pantani was injured by a terroristic-mediatic campaign after he was stopped at the Giro 1999 and for that he fell into depression e started consuming drugs.

    Nowadays I think he's a real legend.

    Sorry for my bad English.

    R.I.P. Marco.

  • lance could had been the best of the history but he never challenged himself.the real cicling legend is someone who wins both tour and giro.they complete each other.tour:fast, cronos, easy mountains.giro:slow, less cronos, the hardest mountains.

someone could please explain me why the teamates of lance while climbing the mountains where going faster than the capitans of the other teams?

why he never faced other races beside the tour, why his teamates where going as scooters

  • I climbed Ventoux on an organized tour. It's long but overall, not that steep. That's why Pantani couldn't drop Armstrong. Remember, Lance never ventured into the Giro against Pantani because I think he knew that with several 18-24% climbs, Pantani would own him. They said no one could do the double and a pure climber could never win the TDF. In 1998 the Pirate proved everyone wrong.

  • yea, i remember this. Absolutely right about Courchevel, it was an imposter not an actual Kelme rider. Armstrong gifting Pantani the victory on Ventoux was one of the stupidest things he ever did. After that they were pricks to each other. Pantani was always an exciting rider. He gave more character to the tour and captivated the hearts and minds of many...another dead hero

  • let's go marcoooo....
