Italian tenor Ferdinando Ciniselli was born in 1893. He made his debut in 1919. Gifted with a warm and mellow voice, he sang the whole lyric-tenor repertoire. His qualities were musicality, artistic temperament, extremely clear diction and incisive phrasing. He had a perfect legato and a mezzavoce that never fell off into falsetto. An example of his mezzavoce is heard in this aria where, through a wonderful diminuendo that starts with a flowing legato, Ciniselli carries out a progressive lowering of his voice down to a nearly imperceptible sonority level.
During the 1920's he had a very succesful career in the most important Italian, European, and South American theaters. Ferdinado Ciniselli died in 1954.
