  • I remember every song that was on this record, but this one is totally unfamiliar to me. (I know for sure that it wasn't in the TV special.) Is this some kind of a gag, or maybe it was added to a later release of the record?

  • @FreedomforHaiti, as far as I am aware "Girl Land" was on the original release. I know that I wore my first "Free to be You and Me" album out by dancing to it as a small child in the late 70's and early 80's and this song was indelibly burned into my psyche. You are absolutely correct that it was not on the TV special.

  • Quite possibly the creepiest song ever.

  • I still have the record from 1972, I think, and yes, Girl Land is on it. You were probably just too scared to listen to it.

  • @jdcmt as if wearing a dress was some sort of gender betrayal.

  • It's the calliope music. It makes you think of clowns, the weird hellish island in Pinocchio...well, yeah. Clowns, fairs, Something Wicked this Way Come...evil stuff. Unfortunately when I was a kid and this album was played for me I felt like hiding under the covers when it was playing and didn't even understand what it was about.

  • Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for this song for ages!

  • I remember this song from my childhood also. I think I wore out my album out. I know I looked for this album when I had children and I could never find it. I'm playing all the songs from the album and I still remember all the words.

  • Yep, it's definitely on the original album. I remember listening to it over and over again as a kid.

  • It's absolutely on the album. It always creeped me out a little.
