For the m1911.org forums, a video showing my problem with my Para Big Hawg dropping its magazines when chambering a round.

The problem was finally determined by the repair shop to be a frame that was technically in spec, but at the widest end of the spectrum.... which is why one of the mags worked.

A replacement frame has been made, and now it works perfectly.... at least in this test. I will reserve judgement until I get a couple of range visits with it.

Thank you to George Wedge, Derek Brodka, Raymond Kowalski and Nick Cotton at Para for their help in resolving the matter.

  • I had this same pistol. The magazine would fall out of the gun randomly at the range. I sure hope all their guns aren't like this.

  • @thedrod

You probably got the same bad batch of frames that were out of spec.

  • It sounds like Para has made all efforts to remedy your problem and you still haven't made a video showing the new frame working flawlessly as you claim. Make a video with the new frame. So people don't come away with the idea that Para Ordnance only makes junk pistols and realize that 98 percent of their products work just fine...........

  • @TheZilla1

I've been quite busy and I've been holding off making a new video until I have a better camera and editing tool that does what I need. It was a little rough in the beginning of its feeding as the new frame had to go through break-in to smooth over the gap between the ramp on the barrel and the frame, but so far has run like a champ.

The problem now is that the magazine that worked in the original frame now doesn't drop free, and the finish is going. Need to get those fixed.

  • there is an easy fix fort his, take a dremmel tool and shave a bit of the top of the slot opening on the magazine where it locks into the gun, i just got a limited S14-45 and had the same problem with my mags from my original P14-45 did that to all my mags and all 16 of them work good now

  • @naji11

Yes, that could work, but getting the frame replaced at Para worked just as well and now all the magazines work. Except for the 1 magazine that worked in the bad frame.... that one works, but doesn't drop free. I can live with that however and if I send the gun back to Para for service again I'll get that mag checked too.

  • I you mentioned was correct! I bought a Para P-13 Limited here in the Philippines and its has a VERY POOR QUALITY! I think we should put up a website for "POOR QUALITY MADE PRODUCTS FROM CANADA" It's a waste of money! I should buy COLT Gold Cup instead!

  • Have owned a PARA hi cap 1911 and standard ....after they both failed.... and dealing with the Para's customer service ....i wont ever buy one again .
