Shotokan Karate Brown Belt Exam -- Washington Shotokan Association

Alex, age 11, is taking his Brown Belt exam in Shotokan Karate at Bellevue Dojo. Alex has been training in Karate for 6 years since he was 5 years old. He advances one belt level in about 8 months to a year with weekly hour long training. He is expected to get the coveted first degree black belt when he is 14 to 15 years old -- a 10 year long effort!

The exam is conducted by Sensei Andre Dulce http://www.washotokan.com seventh degree black belt, and graded by a panel of four other Senseis, all fourth, fifth degree black belts. Alex needs to get the a unanimous pass from all the Senseis to be awarded the brown belt -- a milestone for him, with the brown belt, he is one foot in(out?) the door and on his way to a life long journey,
