Few artists can consider themselves as determined as AJ Simmonds in the quest to improve our environment through art. He lives and creates in an abandoned roofless hurricane building in Christiansted, St. Croix. AJ has been in and out of addictions and institutions throughout his life, yet painting is and always has been a constant.
'AJ of the Living' is part of the 'Facing Locality' exhibition at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts, Frederiksted, St. Croix on March 6, 2009, curated by Luis Camnitzer.
Filmmakers Tomas Lanner and Mike Walsh live in St. Croix, USVI.
