  • Actually she was highly intelligent and an excellent debater. She argued pretty well with Mr Knox. Definately poor judgement on the old man front. But ,as Fraser points out, she was totally ill prepared for dealing with the brutal, and often violent, nature of Scotland at that time. So many shifting loyalities at the drop of a hat and for a wealth of reasons. I just finished the biography and I finished up liking her and at the same time, understanding Elizabeth. Good book.

  • She was ALOT less vain than Elizabeth. Heaven sake.

  • I got my version video edited anyone who want to watch it i'll give you link.

  • I remember watching this and how I hated Elizebeth because she really did know what she was doing to Mary, just like her father kneew what he was doing when he killed 3 Queen's Elizebeth and Henry are not inoccent they blame other people for there misfortune and the guilt and can't own up to there own guilt!! sad really.

  • @happybkwrm Philippa Gregory is not a historian. She cannot have "authority".

But I'm agree with you: Mary was a fragile woman and she often had the necessity of a strong man.

  • @Jacobitess Mary was the puppet; she couldn't rule without a big strong MAN. I think you've been reading too much Phillipa Gregory.

  • @happybkwrm Oh yes, Elizabeth 'knew better' than fighting with men. She just threw temper tantrums against underlings, committed acts of spite against handmaids that stole her lovers, and let the Cecils run the real show. She was a pathetic puppet.

  • A few points. Most of the Lords around her were in the pay of Elizabeth, including James.her half brother. She ruled the kingdom pretty well and worked tirelessly. She reconciled with Darrnley before his murder. Proof - the twins born to her when in Loch Leven were certainly at least 8 mohths getation. At 3 months you have a miscrraige and a flush down the toilet, Darnley did NOT have syphilis. Mary had the largest army at Langside, but the people were no match for trained soldiers..

  • Vanessa is great as Mary.

  • @anaofaragon The French had laws forbidding women to inherit the crown. They didn't want women ruling. French women had to rule behind the scenes, as mistresses. Sadly, Mary was never taught the realities of life. She assumed that as a queen, she would be obeyed and adored automatically.

  • Mary was tossed out of Scotland by her own people. She was considered an adulteress and murderer and nearly torn apart by a mob. By the time she arrived in England, NO ONE would have her. She taxed her ordinary citizens dry so she could have a fancy christening for her son.
